Research Associate (Postdoc) in Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience

Start date: 01.04.2025, fixed for a period of three years (This is a fixed-term contract in accordance with Section 2 of the academic fixed-term labor contract act [Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG]).The contract provides for a maximum extension of up to three years depending on the associate’s achievements during the first stage. Providing that a position is available and that requirements have been fulfilled, the associate may apply for temporary civil servant status in accordance with Section 28 subsection 2 HmbHG.

Your responsibilities
Duties include teaching and research in the respective department or institute. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications as well as acquire teaching experience. These duties are intended to promote academic achievement. Therefore, at least one-third of set working hours will be made available for the associate’s own academic work.
The position is funded by the University of Hamburg and comes with a teaching commitment of 4 hours per week (LVS) in Biopsychology and Experimental Psychology (mostly in English). The postdoc will develop and coordinate behavioral and neuroscience studies focusing on multisensory processing and neuroplasticity. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong interest in developmental studies in infants/children and/or in individuals with a sensory, in particular visual deprivation. Key responsibilities include the elaboration of research designs, the coordination of data acquisition, data analysis and publication of research findings. Other tasks are supporting the preparation of grant proposals and writing progress reports, as well as co/supervising PhD candidates, and Master and Bachelor students.
Your profile
A university degree in a relevant field, plus doctorate.
We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher with a doctorate in Psychology, (Developmental) Cognitive Neuroscience, Cognitive Science, or a related field. The successful candidate has a strong background in (Developmental) Cognitive Neuroscience, documented with first-authored publications. Excellent knowledge in experimental psychology and statistics, experience with at least one neuroscience method (preferably brain imaging or EEG), and good programming skills are required for this position. International research experience is highly desirable. We are looking for a candidate who enjoys working as part of a team in our lab and office space at the UHH and at partner institutes abroad.
