PhD student (m/f/d) within a collaborative partnership of University Greifswald and Joint Research Centre (EU)

Within a Collaborative Doctoral Partnership, the Department of Prevention Research and Social Medicine, Institute for Community Medicine of University Medicine Greifswald (UMG) and the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission are looking for a PhD student (m/f/d) in a combination of part-time (65%) and full-time (100%, max. 24 months) initially limited for 36 months, starting June 1st, 2025 (or later) with the objective of graduating with a PhD. 

You will be working within an interdisciplinary project team with several other PhD students and Postdocs that focuses on the role of psychosocial and behavioral factors for health, and health promotion throughout adulthood. The teams’ research is based on large longitudinal surveys and intervention studies. Your thesis should address the role of views on aging (self-perceptions of aging, age stereotypes), as well as age discrimination for functional health and quality of life. Your position is linked to a current research project. By being affiliated with the University of Greifswald and the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre, you will gain insights into European research and its policy implications. Close professional supervision is guaranteed at both sites.

 

You have:

  • University degree (M.Sc.) in psychology (or related discipline in social sciences) with good knowledge of quantitative methods in empirical social sciences
  • Enthusiasm for scientific work
  • Strong communication skills, reliability, commitment and the ability to work in a team
  • Independent, self-reliant and committed way of working
  • You are willing to spend half of the time in Greifswald (part-time, 65%), the other half in Ispra (Italy, full-time 100%)
  • Nationality of an EU-Member state or a country that is connected to the European Research Framework Programme, or residence in the EU since at least 5 years

  • Profound experience in statistics (e.g. STATA, R)

The Joint Research Centre (JRC) is the European Commission's science and knowledge service; it supports EU policies with independent scientific evidence throughout the whole policy cycle. The position will be located in Ispra (Italy) at the Lago Maggiore, about 60km from Milan (https://joint-research-centre.ec.europa.eu/index_en). Part of the research activities will be performed at the JRC for a period of 12 to 24 months.
