PhD oder PostDoc Stelle an der Universität Innsbruck
The Affective Neuroscience Lab at the Department of Psychology of the University of Innsbruck (Austria) is considering applications for a funded 4-year PhD position starting from 1st of June 2025. The PhD student will contribute to a project funded by the Austrian Science Fund. The DEACON (DEcoding Affective CONtrol) project investigates emotion regulation as a key transdiagnostic mechanism influencing mental health. By understanding the neural and psychological underpinnings of emotion regulation, DEACON aims to develop innovative, evidence-based strategies for preventing mental disorders such as depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder. The project employs advanced neuroimaging techniques and ecological momentary assessment to bridge the gap between laboratory research and real-life emotional experiences.
Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and talented researcher to contribute to the DEACON project. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in investigating the neural and psychological mechanisms of emotion regulation, with a particular focus on individual differences and context-dependent influences. Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and conducting neuroimaging studies related to emotion regulation.
- Implementing and analyzing multivariate pattern analysis (MVPA) and representational similarity analysis (RSA).
- Applying ecological momentary assessment (EMA) to link neural findings with daily-life experiences.
- Contributing to the development of predictive models for ER.
- Disseminating research findings through peer-reviewed publications and conferences.
- Collaborating with interdisciplinary research teams and mentoring junior researchers.
Qualifications
Required:
- MSc in Psychology, Cognitive Neuroscience, or a related field.
- Strong background in emotion regulation, affective neuroscience, or clinical psychology.
- Experience in conducting psychological experiments.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, or R.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
Preferred:
- Experience with functional MRI analysis and statistical modeling.
- Experience with ecological momentary assessment (EMA) or mobile-based data collection.
- Knowledge of advanced fMRI analyses such as multivariate pattern classification.
What We Offer
- A stimulating research environment within a leading institution.
- Access to state-of-the-art neuroimaging and computational facilities.
- Opportunities for professional development and international collaboration.
- Competitive salary and benefits according to institutional regulations.
Application Process
To apply, please submit the following documents:
- A cover letter detailing research interests and fit for the position.
- CV including contact details of at least two academic referees.
- Copies of relevant academic transcripts.
Please send your application to Univ.-Prof. Dr. Carmen Morawetz (neurolab-psychology@uibk.ac.at) with the subject line “DEACON Research Position Application” by 31.03.2025.
